Kantaučiai Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary church
Kantaučiai Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary church is located in Kantaučiai Village, 12 km from Plungė. The wooden church in a Lithuanian folk architecture style is known for its stories of apparitions of the Holy Virgin Mary, where three of them were recorded in the last sixty years.
Kartena Hillfort historical archaeological complex
Kartena Hillfort, also called the Castle, Swede or Lūžtis Mountain, is located on the other side of the river from Kartena Town. The town, as well as a bend in the Minija River and the surrounding valleys are visible from the hillfort. The hillfort has been dated to the 8th to 13th centuries, while the wooden castle that once stood there was a defensive and administrative centre for the Curonians of the Ceclis lands.
Kęstaičiai Martyr Place
On 22nd November 1883, an armed conflict took place in the Kęstaičiai church, which cost many lives. By the order of the Czar of Russia it was decided to close the church, however the local religious community was fiercely resisting the closure.
Kretinga Bernardine Monastery and the Lord’s Revelation to Virgin Mary Church building complex
The Lord’s Revelation to the Virgin Mary Church building, which can be found at the centre of Kretinga Town, is one of the oldest churches in Samogitia. The masonry buildings of the monastery and the church were built in 1605-1617. They were built by a nobleman of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth, Jonas Karolis Chodkevich, on his wife’s initiative, and the development of the whole town of Kretinga is directly tied to the establishment of the Franciscan monastery.
Kretinga Lourdes Grotto, dedicated to the guardian of the Franciscans the Virgin Mary
One of the main symbols of Kretinga Town – the Lourdes Grotto replica dedicated to the Virgin Mary – was opened on 2nd August 1933, in the presence of the then President of the Republic of Lithuania, Antanas Smetona, the Minister of Defence, Balys Giedraitis, and 25 thousand believers from all over Lithuania.
Luokė All Saints church building complex
The town of Luokė is mentioned in the historical sources when the Christianisation of Samogitians began, in the order of Samogitian Christianisation and Grand Duke Vytautas Magnus to build eight churches, one of which was built in Luokė. Even though in the six centuries the church was many times repaired and rebuilt, it preserves its folk architectural forms to this day.
Luokė ethnographic ensemble (Holy Mass hymns in Samogitian dialect)
Luokė ethnographic ensemble or simply Šatrija, is one of the oldest Samogitian ethnographic ensembles. They perform the Holy Mass hymns in Samogitian dialect. Šatrija performed for the first time on 15th February 1972 during the Shrove Tuesday carnival in the town.
Mikytai Sacred Grove and stone with the devil’s footprint
Mikytai Sacred Grove, otherwise known as Alka Mountain, is located by the Bartuva, Minija and Venta River delta, in Samogitia National Park, Mikytai Landscape Reserve. The 1 km long Mikytai pedestrian path can also be found here.
Mojava hymns, May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary (Museum of the Samogitian village)
May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary are also called Mojava. They are sung not only in churches, but also in the homes of the faithful, - villagers and townspeople sing together after their day’s labours.
